Srinivas School of architecture hosts Nasa convention

Mangaluru: Srinivas School of Architecture, dept of Srinivas Institute of Technology (SIT), hosted the zonal NASA convention on October 23, 24 and 25 at its Valachil campus.

The NASA (National Association of Students of Architecture) is a congregation of all architecture students across the SAARC countries. It is the largest architecture student body association in the world. NASA India has 6 zones, out of which Karnataka, Goa, Telangana and Seemandhra come under Zone 5. 1500 delegates from 34 colleges took part in this convention.

The 3-day fest had a wide range of formal and informal activities involving international architects, theme-based seminars and workshops. Architects from Sri Lanka, New Delhi, Kerala and Ahmedabad conducted technical talks and experts from Manipal, Mumbai, Kashmir and Bengaluru conducted bamboo, mud, theatre, sand and movie making workshops. Enthusiastic delegates wholeheartedly took part in various informal and formal activities conducted on all 3 days. The culture of Mangaluru was exhibited through a special performance of Hulivesha which was a treat to the eyes.

The chief guest of the ceremony Palinda Kannangara, renowned architect from Srilanka inaugurated the function. In his inaugural speech he advised the members to “Dream.. dream.. dream.. it comes true”. All Architects have to dream and then have to think to make the dream true. CA A Raghavendra Rao, president, A Shama Rao Foundation, Mangaluru presided over the function. In his presidential speech he appreciated the work done by students and architects should have good imaginative power and that imagination has to come into reality with their effort. Dr A Srinivas Rao, vice president, A Shama Rao Foundation, A Vijayalakshmi R Rao, director, Srinivas Group of Collges and Mitra S Rao, secretary, A Shama Rao Foundation were the guests of honor. Principal of SIT- Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D, dean- Architect Kumarchandra M R, HOD- Architect Vasudev N Shet and the executive council of NASA India- vice president- Saagar Tulshan, secretary- Murari Kumar Raja, public relations - Palaguni Rahul and zonal president- Shashank Rao were present at the program.

The cultural evenings kick-started with the Battle of Bands followed by a guest performance by the Coke Studio. In the days to follow, Srinivas School of Architecture witnessed events like fashion show and dance competitions. The valedictory ceremony was attended by the executive council of NASA India and the faculty of the college.
