Mangauru (TOI): Corporate social leader T V Mohandas Pai had simple message for VKSSF Alumni Association (VAA) - be ahead of the pack and emerge a knowledge society. The occasion was Prerana: A confluence of ideas and motivation organized under Vision TVM Initiative by VAA that saw five achievers across fields share their mantra of success. This was second edition of Prerana that Sandeep V Bambolkar, joint MD, Indoco Remedies Ltd, Mumbai inaugurated.

Reminding the young audience that they are living in an age of disruptions, with Internet providing a level playing field for seven billion global population, he said this will have huge bearing on jobs as the present generation knows it. "While the lower level jobs will continue, cushy middle jobs will be far fewer and there will be greater aspirants for these limited jobs," he said adding the trick is to embrace change as and when it happens or face the prospect of being left out.

With global societies the world over facing remake, Pai said Internet has allowed the seven billion population to be in touch with each other either wirelessly or through wired connectivity. Entire accumulated knowledge across the world is available on the net, he said adding this allows one to engage with the others like never before. "At present, around 3.5 billion are connected via the Net," he said adding this could double to seven billion over the next five years.

The disruptions will not be limited to job market alone. Energy, manufacturing, education, capital markets will all face the consequences of the disruptions, he said adding that this has resulted in nearly 10 million jobs disappearing in the US and one million back home in India. "This shrinking job market has resulted in social tensions with all communities resorting to agitations seeking reservations," he said answer to this lies in equipping oneself with myriad skills.

The speakers included Ullas Kamath, joint MD and CFO, Jyothy Laboratories, Ambareesh Baliga, stock market analyst, Umesh Kamath, director (HR), UST Global Software, Reema Tendulkar, research analyst, CNBC TV 18, and Ajay Bhalwankar, creative director, Sony Entertainment Television. Mohandas Pai later also installed the new VAA office bearers headed by Dinesh K Pai. The VAA also launched its website www.vkssfalumni.com on this occasion.
