Mangaluru (TOI) : Department of Public Instructions in association with NGOs working in educational field is conducting a survey on 'Homework in School Education'. The survey, which is being conducted through Makkala Mantapa Shikshana Adhyayana Kendra and Padi Mangaluru will commence in Dakshina Kannada district from November 15.

The survey intends to find out whether homework really helps children's educational growth and will design standards to make extended learning a streamlined process. As many as 50 volunteers will carry out the survey by involving students, parents and teachers (600 each) of selected 100 schools in five talukas of the district, said Renni D'Souza, director, Padi Mangaluru.

He told TOI that the survey work, which will be taken up under the guidance of education expert Sukumara Gowda, is expected to be completed by December 5. "We have designed a survey tool comprising three major elements including a questionnaire, interview and a discussion. Team consisting of 10 volunteers will be deputed to each taluk. After using questionnaire and interview tools, a discussion will be held involving students, parents and teachers in the third stage. The discussion will be an open platform, where stakeholders may express opinion on the subject," Renni said and added that the process will help the government to make changes to the extended learning process.
