Udupi (The Hindu): The police arrested two persons on the charge of murdering a 33-year-old woman at Belve village in Kundapur taluk on Thursday.

In a press release issued here, the police said that Usha (33), who was working in a cashew factory at Goliangady village, had been missing since November 23. A missing complaint was registered by her brother Vishwanath Shetty on December 2.

Meanwhile, a body of a woman was found on the banks of the Sita at Gommahola and a case was registered at the Shankarnarayana police station on November 30.

The police then showed the dress and other items found on the body of the woman found at Gommahola to Mr. Shetty, who recognised those of his sister. The missing case got converted into that of murder.

Meanwhile, the police who began investigations into the case arrested two persons, Vishawanath Naik (34) and Karunakar Shetty (46), from Belve village on the charge of murdering Usha. Both confessed to the crime. Naik, a mason, had an affair with Usha for the last eight years and had helped her financially regularly. But when Naik asked his money back, she said that she required money for building a house. Tired of this, Naik along with his friend Karunakar murdered her at Belve. Both then disposed her body into the river.

The police have recovered gold ornaments, a wrist watch, and two mobile telephones belonging to Usha from the accused.
