Unfortunate that religions becoming cause of unrest: Bishop

Belagavi (TOI): Religion is important part of life and India is the country of several religions. All religions formed to the betterment of mankind and no religion preaches violence. But it's unfortunate that religion becoming cause of unrest and violence in the country, lamented Belagavi bishop Rev Peter Machado.

He was speaking in a technical session on topic 'Religion in Storm or Storm in Religion' organized by Karnataka Chhatra Sansad (Youth Parliament) organized at VTU campus here on Saturday. Fr Machado opined violence out of religion is manmade disaster.

He said every religion has set of beliefs, code of conducts and scripts. Most of the religions believe supernatural powers. They have their own gods. But problem erupts when one started comparing gods and started arguing his god or philosophy is great. Fr Machado said the prime minister Narendra Modi has introduced schemes like Swaccha Bharat Mission. However, there is need of cleaning the dirt from minds of people, he said.

Swami Nandulal Prabhu of ISCKON said absence of proper understanding of religion is crucial problem in India. He said religion is the source of peace and harmony. If religion itself become a cause of fight who is to save? It's will become the disastrous, he said. Seer pointed out that ego regarding religion, gods, scriptures etc., are the cause of problems, which create storm.

Maulana Syed Kalbe Rushiad Rizvi , social reformer and renowned Islamic scholar said problem get more complicated when everybody start talking about problem rather its solutions. In these days people in all religions taking the preaches in holy books according to their benefit and dropping those which he doesn't like. This is the root cause of problems created based on religion, he said.
