Mangaluru: Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader inaugurated Veerarani Abbakka Utsav 2016 with cultural procession on May 7. Youth Empowerment and Sports Abhayachandra Jain hoisted the flag. The main programme was inaugurated by Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel presides over the programme. The prizes for the winners of Rani Abbakka Trophy and cultural competitions was distributed on the occasion.
A presentation on ’Samajika Sandarbadali Mahile’ by Merlin Martis was held. A multi-lingual poets’ meet was held at 2.30 pm. It was presided by Catherine Rodrigues.
Senior writer Rohini was felicitated with ’Veerarani Abbakka Award’ and international athlete Lalitha Jayaram and Kannada actor Harini were awarded with ’Rani Abbakka Puraskar’ at the valedictory.
