Mangauru (The Hindu): The BJP's Dakshina Kannada unit will continue to fight against the Yettinahole project for which the State government is “draining Rs. 13,000 crore from the exchequer”, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, has said.

Speaking at a function to felicitate newly elected members of the zilla panchayat and taluk panchayats, he said that the project would not ensure 24 tmcft of water to parched areas of Kolar, Chickballapur, Tumakuru and Bengaluru. Despite knowing this fact, the State government was going ahead with the project to lift rain water from Yettinahole, a stream joining the Netravathi near Sakleshpur.

Mr. Kateel said that people from the parched regions were also realising that the project would not meet their need of water. He said that the modalities of the fight would be decided based on the decision of the Southern Zone of the Green Tribunal, which is hearing a petition questioning execution of the project.

Earlier, BJP district unit president Pratap Simha Nayak congratulated party workers who were elected to the taluk and zilla panchayats.

Mr. Nayak said that the good performance of the party in the panchayat elections was because of unstained efforts put in by party workers in reaching out to people.
