Uppinangady: A youth died of electric shock while picking arecanut, at Raitha Bandhu Ahararodyama Private Limited in Kaniyur.
The victim has been identified as Sumanth KY, 17, resident of Belthangady taluk. Police said Sumanth was employed at Raitha Bandhu Ahararodyama Private Limited for picking arecanut and some other works. He along with Sharath, went to the farm to pick areca. While he was adjusting the aluminium ladder to climb the areca tree, it came in contact with a live electric wire and was electrocuted. The incident took place around 8am.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital but doctors declared him brought dead. A case has been registered at Uppinangady.
