Mangaluru: Zilla Panchayat President Meenakshi Shanthogodu said that over 2,000 households in the district do not have toilets. Her statements contradicts the official statistics, according to which, only 605 households in Dakshina Kannada do not have toilet facilities.
Speaking at the Zilla Panchayat general meeting, she said that a separate meeting to discuss the Swaccha Bharat Mission will be convened shortly.
Janardhan Gowda, president of the Zilla Panchayat standing committee on social justice, said, “The DK district has won awards and praise in sanitation but, it is lagging behind in cleanliness and sanitation. Unless we take the issue seriously, there is no way to move ahead. Also, in spite of Dakshina Kannada having a full-fledged Swacha Bharath Mission wing, we have failed in implementing the Mission effectively.”
