Jayaprakash Hegde denies joining JDS

Published On : 07 Dec 2018

Udupi: Former MP K Jayaprakash Hegde has dismissed the news of joining JDS. The news of him joining has been doing rounds in Udupi since couple of days. JP Hegde met chief minister H D Kumaraswamy recently and expressed his willingness to join JDS provided he was given the opportunity to contest polls from Udupi – Chikkamagaluru constituency. It is also reported that Hegde also met Congress leader Ahmed Patel in New Delhi to accept his candidature from Udupi, so that Congress high command will not oppose his name.

Hegde was expelled from Congress for his protest against the denial of MLC ticket to him. He had stood as an independent in the MLC polls, but lost. He later joined BJP. It is said he is not happy to be in BJP, as local party leaders want youngster with BJP roots to stand for upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

After the tremendous victory of BJP in the entire coastal belt, the prospects of JP Hegde in the party have been further slimmed. We will now have to wait and see.
