Fortune oil initiates campaign to make India diabetes-free

Published On : 13 Nov 2016

Mumbai, (IANS) With an aim to inspire healthy living and spread awareness about diabetes, Adani Wilmar Ltd, the makers of the Fortune brand of vegetable oils, has launched a digital campaign called 'MakeIndiaDiabetesFree'.

"Our campaign #MakeIndiaDiabetesFree is inspiring individuals to stay ahead of this deadly disease by leading a balanced lifestyle of exercise and eating right. Fortune is committed to helping diabetics fight the disease," said Angshu Mallick, Chief Operating Officer at Adani Wilmar Ltd.

"Diabetes is fast gaining the status of an epidemic in India with more than 62 million individuals currently diagnosed with the disease. Awareness of the disease and detection at an early stage is important to reduce the risk of complications," Mallick added in a statement.

Diabetes prevalence has been rising more rapidly in middle- and low-income countries and the World Health Organization (WHO) has projected that diabetes will be the seventh leading cause of death in the world in 2030.

The #MakeIndiaDiabetesFree campaign was launched on Thursday and runs through November 14 (World Diabetes Day).

There will also be a quiz validated by nutritionist Neha Chandna as a part of the campaign which will let people know if they are pre-diabetic or are more likely to get diabetes in the future, the statement added.

Targeting diabetics, Adani Wilmar earlier launched FortuneVIVO Diabetes-Care Oil.

"Our VIVO Oil has ingredients proven to improve insulin sensitivity, helping reduce blood-sugar levels and efficiency of anti-diabetic medicines," Mallick said.
