A Rural College from Brahmavar Demonstrates the Indomitable Spirit of its Alumni Network.

Brahmavar, Sept. 18, 2019 Even as bigger, renowned institutes grapple to sustain an active alumni network, Crossland College, a 35-year old undergraduate institute from the rural belt of Udupi in Brahmavar revels its strong and uber-active network of alumni. Just last Saturday, the Bangalore chapter of its alumni network witnessed over 100 old students from 1987-2019 batches come together at the Cave and Dine Hall in Basaveshwaranagar, Bangalore to jointly celebrate the joy of being an alumnus/alumna of the college, felicitate retiring staff members and render their support to the upcoming batches of the college. In fact, the alumni network has been actively supporting the college through donations, campus to corporate programs, scholarships and more. Old students from across the globe gathered for a similar celebration at the college this year in February, even pledging support to its alma mater that is committed to educating the lesser privileged communities.

“I can’t start to express how emotionally touched I am by the love and respect bestowed upon us by these students. To be able to reconnect with 100 plus students at the Bangalore Chapter meet, truly named Sangama and to listen to them share their story and how much of an important role the college played in it, was humbling. As a teacher what more do we need than to know that we have been able to positively touch the lives of a few people”, recollects the Principal of Crossland College, Brahmavar.

The Bangalore Chapter meet also witnessed the nominations of new office bearers. Mrs. Surekha Shetty, Director – Student Services, IFIM Institutions was nominated President, Mr. Nagaraj Shetty, BEL and Mr. Uday Poojary, Proprietor, SDG caterer, Bengaluru were chosen to serve as Vice Presidents, while Mr. Sharath Chandra Shetty, Area Head Kotak Mutual Funds, and Mr Praveen Shetty, Manger, H R, Buhler India Pvt Ltd. took on the roles of General Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

“We sincerely thank all the office bearers of last year who have been instrumental in engaging the alumni community based in Bangalore and keeping the spirit of the college alive even as everyone continues to be busy with their personal and professional lives”, shared Robert Clive, Professor at the Crossland College who was also present during the event.

Despite being in a rural setup with less access to the facilities and privileges of an urban institute, the college has managed to garner over 6 gold medals and 35 ranks in the Mangalore University exams in the last 15 years. Today, many of the students are holding senior positions with reputed brands such as Toyota, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Gallup, JustDial, Accenture,government departments like judiciary,police,trasury and some are also running successful entrepreneurial ventures.

About the college:
Established by an eminent educationist late Dr.C.T.Abraham in 1984, Crossland College, situated in Chanthar, Brahmavar is affiliated to Mangalore University and teaches B.A and B.Com undergraduate courses. With a primary vision of empowering the lesser privileged communities through education, the college maintains a reasonable fee structure and offers numerous scholarships. It sees an inflow of students from across India including Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and the north-eastern states. The college received a B++ accreditation in its recent NAAC review and was also ranked 82nd best Arts College in all of India. Over the last 15 years, the college also bagged 11 gold medals and 35 ranks in the Mangalore University examinations.

Crossland College lives by its vision to deliver well-rounded education to its students and alongside regular curriculum-based sessions, also conducts extra-curricular activities and personality development initiatives. A testimony to its constant endeavour has been the number of awards won nationally and internationally in sports and cultural activities. Among other things, the college has also gained a reputation for its innovative programs like ‘exams without invigilators’, ‘a handful of rice’, ‘wall of charity’ and more.
