Mumbai (The Hindu): Three years of the Narendra Modi-led government’s rule have led to a rise in unemployment, farmer distress and lack of internal security, alleged senior Congress leader and former Minister of State for Home Affairs R.P.N. Singh on Friday.

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Mr. Singh said the Central and State governments are celebrating three years of being in office at a time when people are suffering from several challenges in the country. The Congress has held around 25 press conferences across the country, claiming to expose the BJP government’s misdeeds and U-turn on the several issues.

Mr Singh said, “Before the 2014 general election, the party made a promise the youths that 2 crore jobs would be generated every year. But in reality, they have provided less than 14 lakh jobs. In an advertisement issued on the completion of three years, the government had deliberately not mentioned how many jobs have been created. The government has ruined the future of our youths.”

The Congress leader said the government has also failed to manage the internal and external security of the country. “The country has witnessed 12 terrorists attacks, most of them have taken on the security establishments. More than 1000 ceasefire violations have taken place in the country,” he said.

Mr. Singh said Rahul Gandhi will soon take up the role of party president and that the 2019 Lok Sabha polls will be fought under his leadership.

“A lot of revamping is going on and further changes are expected in the All India Congress Committee. All this is being done to strengthen the organisation and make it ready for the 2019 polls.” He said, “Rahul will soon assume the role of party president.”
