Udupi: The issue of Tipu Jayanthi is not only being discussed in news channgel, but it also became a topic of discussion at Zilla Panchayath meeting, when Sumith Shetty, Bailoor ZP member alleged that Tippu Sultan Jayanthi is being celebrated to gain votes from Muslim community

Janardhan Thonse, Opposition leader objected the issue and said that it is the issue of State Government and not the Udupi district Zilla Panchayat. There was uproar during the meeting between the Janardhan Thonse and ruling ZP members.

Janardhan Thonse said, "It is the programme of state government and since two years the state government is celebrating Tipu Sultan Jayanti. Zilla Panchayat has nothing to do with the said celebration. The Kannada and Culture department of the state has been celebrating the Tippu Sultan for his contribution to the state."
