Udupi: Udupi district BJP staged a protest in front of the Clock tower near Service Bus stand here on Tuesday, 8th November, 2016 against the state government’s decision to celebrate the Tippu Sultan Jayanthi.

Addressing the protesters Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, Udupi district BJP President said that since 69 years there have been several chief ministers in Karnataka who have not celebrated Tippu’s birthday.

We are not against the celebrations of any leaders who have given service to the country or state. But Siddaramaiah government in the state started the complicated celebration of Tippu Jayanthi last year suddenly. What was the contribution of Tippu to the people of Karnataka. He was against the Kannada. He was a criminal who killed thousands of innocent people of Hindus and Christians. We opposed last year not to celebrate the Tippu Jayanthi in the state. But due to the celebrations Puttappa was murdered.

The government is spending three crores for the celebration of Tippu Jayanthi which is condemnable by the people at large. District people should think what is the necessity to celebrate the Tippu Jayanthi. Herewith Udupi BJP warns the government not to celebrate the Tippu Jayanthi. Congress party is responsible for the any untoward incidences. It will be better to remove the celebration of Tippu Jayanthi, he said.

V. Sunil Kumar MLA of Karkala said that during the celebrations of Jayanthi of leaders they should keep in mind that there should be some good history and truth in favor of society’s development. Tippu hasn't done anything for the society. But he massacred a lot of people of Hindus and Christians as well. He demolished temples, mutts, churches and converted to Islam.

The celebration of Tippu Sultan Jayanthi is foolishness and lack of knowing history in regard to him. Siddaramaiah should answer people of this state in regard to the celebration of Tippu Jayanthi.

Since Siddaramaih’s government has taken over, there is killing of innocent Hindu leaders in the state.

State government has been supporting the killers of Hindu leaders. He said that by celebrating the Tippu Jayanthi Chief Minister Siddaramiah a modern Tippu of Karnataka.

Vilas Nayak, President of Udupi VHP, the attacks appear to be a big conspiracy in the state that around 7 RSS workers and 12 BJP workers were killed in last one year. Unless the government’s hand or support there could not be killing of Hindu leaders. The government must ensure that law and order prevails in the society in Karnataka. Siddaramaih has hurt the feelings of the majority of people of the state will be a tragedy. If violence appears in the state due to the celebration of Tippu Sultan Jayanthi, Siddaramaih’s congress government will be responsible.
