Bajpe police arrest five for illegal transport of cattle

Mangaluru: The Bajpe police arrested five persons for alleged theft and illegal transport of cattle. The police have rescued 16 head of cattle. Acting on a tip-off, a police team stopped a Tempo Traveller and found 12 head of cattle in it.

The police further checked a sports utility car and found four head of cattle in it. The police have arrested the five persons for offences under Sections 379 (theft) and 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of the Indian Penal Code.

They have also been accused of violation of Sections 9 and 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and Sections 3 and 4 of the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation of Act 1964.
