Basheer dies; no public funeral

Mangaluru: In a tragic incident, Basheer, who was attacked by four assailants four days back, succumbed to injuries on Sunday. Basheer, who battled for life for four days in a private hospital, breathed his last on Sunday morning at around 8.30 am. The persons arrested the assaulters, Sandesh, Dhanush, Shreejith and Kishan.

Meanwhile, Basheer's family members have decided not to conduct funeral procession and bury him quietly at the mosque cemetery. Only close relatives are allowed to visit Basheer's home to view the body. The public will be allowed to pay last respects at the time of funeral at the mosque.

Basheer's son got a job in Abu Dhabi just a few days ago. He is unable to attend the funeral due to visa issues. On behalf of the family members, MLA Mohiuddin Bava is in close touch with the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi to get help Basheer's son.

Police commissioner T R Suresh told reporters about the family's decision to not hold funeral procession and said that the police have made all arrangements to maintain law and order.
