Belapu gets new Anganawadi centre under CSR grant of Adan

Udupi: An Anganawadi centre, which is constructed under the CSR Fund of Adani Foundation, a CSR wing of Adani Group, was inaugurated at Javanarakatte under the limits of Belapu gram panchayat on Friday November 24.

Kishore Alva, joint president of Adani Group’s UPCL and Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, president of Belapu gram panchayat inaugurated the Anganawadi centre, which is constructed at a cost of Rs 5.50 lac.

Welcoming the guests, Dr Devi Prasad thanked Adani Group for its unique CSR activities and executing various rural infrastructure development works in the surrounding seven gram panchayats.

He appreciated the initiation of Kishore Alva in getting the CSR grant sanctioned from the company for panchayats in the project vicinity and taking-up the development works as per the Kriya Yojane submitted by the gram panchayat.

Further Dr Deviprasad told that the government will not provide any grants for the construction of Anganawadi centres and residents of Belapu gram panchayat are lucky that Adani company has constructed a unique Anganawadi centre in the vicinity. He also informed that Adani UPCL’s CSR activities has become the role model for social development activities and panchayat expects Adani UPCL to continue the CSR activities in long run.

Inaugurating the Anganawadi centre, Kishore Alva informed that Anganawadi is a type of rural mother and child care centre in India, which was started during the year 1975 as a part of the Integrated Child Development Services programme to combat child hunger and malnutrition. Adani Foundation is very happy and proud that it has gifted one Anganawadi centre to Belapu Grama Panchayat, which is one of the model Grama Panchayat in the Asia. This Anganawadi Centre will be like one more feather in the cap of Belapu Panchayat, he added. He further informed that there are more than 13 lakhs Anganawadi centres in our country and the Belapu Anganawadi centre will dedicate its services in providing supplementary nutrition, non-formal pre-school education, nutrition and health education, immunization, health check-up under the leadership of Dr.Devi Prasad. During the occasion, Alva also appreciated the services of Anganawadi workers and he committed that company will also provide soft furniture and playing equipment to the Anganawadi centre, facilitating children to learn and play.

Alva also informed that out of Rs. 22.73 crores of CSR grant, Belapu Grama Panchayat’s share is Rs. 3 crores over a period of 3 years. Under the committed CSR grant of Rs. 3 crores, Adani UPCL has executed development works worth Rs 73 lac during the year 2016-17 and other development works for the year 2017-18 will soon be taken-up for execution.
