Udupi: ICYM Kallianpur deanery's annual youth convention 'Yuva Samagam 2016 - One day with the Lord' was hosted by Sacred Heart Church, Kolalgiri ICYM unit.
The day's event started with a brief stage me presided over by Fr Stany B Lobo the vicar forane of Kallianpur deanery as well as the rector of Milagres Cathedral Kallianpur.
Also present on the stage were Fr Wilfred Frank the parish priest of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Kolalgiri, Fr Dr Prakash Anil Castelino the director of ICYM Kallianpur deanery, Sr Laveena the animator of ICYM Kolalgiri unit, Sr Bartha the superior of Christa Jyothi convent Kolalgiri, Fr Steven OFM, the resource person of the day, Naveen Rodrigues the vice president of Kolalgiri parish pastoral council, Queeny Mary D'Souza the secretary of parish pastoral council, ,Loyal D'Souza the president of diocesan ICYM, Royton D'Souza the president of ICYM Kallianpur deanery, Komal D’Souza the secretary of ICYM Kallianpur deanery and .Vishal D’Souza the president of ICYM Kolalgiri unit.
Royton D'Souza welcomed the gathering followed by the dignitaries lighting the lamp while Kolalgiri unit sang the hymn of the Holy Spirit, with that the prayer services concluded.
Fr Stany B Lobo gave the presidential address asking the youth to be active and lively. He quoted the Holy Father Pope Francis having said during the world youth day in Krakow that the “youth today tend to be couch potatoes”. Fr Stany asked the youth to “take risks and not remain as mere spectators that should be the gist of a youthful life.”
Komal D'Souza then delivered the vote of thanks. With that the formal programme concluded. Derick Mascarenhas and Natasha D’Souza compered the Inaugural programme.
The ICYM members of Kolalgiri unit in tandem with all the deanery members present praised and worshipped the Lord through action songs and hymn.
The following session was conducted by Fr. Steven after which some time was dedicated for adoration and confessions.
The Eucharistic celebration was held at Sacred Heart Church Kolalgiri. Fr Dr Prakash Anil Castelino was the main.
After the Mass, Fr Edwin D'Souza, secretary of youth commission, Udupi diocese and the director of diocesan ICYM enlightened all present about youth commission and its reach to the youth through CODP educare loans, job care and other functions. He also talked about national youth convention which will be held in the diocese of Mangaluru in January 2017. He called upon the youth to take part in large numbers and make it a point to be active and enthusiastic.
Lunch was served soon after Fr Edwin having addressed the youth.
The second half of the day was skit competition, the theme for which was to be mandatorily based on the Bible. 5 out of 8 parishes participated and gave a spectacular performance. Shaila Fernandes, Sr Trecilda AC the president CRI Udupi diocese and Fr Steven OFM were the judges for the competition. In between the competition Loyal D’Souza the diocesan ICYM president shared his experience of world youth day. Bible Quiz was conducted for the Audience.
During the valedictory programme, Wernher D'Silva from Mount Rosary parish, Santhekatte opined that the entire event was nicely organised and done. Shaila Fernandes brought up certain things that the participants must be very specific about while presenting themselves on the stage. Fr Wilfred Frank, president of the valedictory programme addressed the youth as well. Mementos were presented. Finally, Fr Dr Prakash Anil Castelino declared the winners of the competition. The first place was bagged by Milagres Cathedral unit while the second place was bagged by Thottam Unit. Thottam unit was honoured by the deanery director for bringing maximum number of youth.
All the members harmoniously sang the ICYM anthem of Udupi diocese and called it a day.
