Mangaluru: Clashes erupted between two groups belonging to different communities. In a fit of anger, the two groups of jail inmates vandalised the premises, breaking things with tubelights, window frames, stones and rods.

Several persons including a number of police personnel were injured in the incident. When the inmates were let out from their cells for tea, an argument arose between the two groups and resulted in the clashes.

A few of the injured persons were shifted to hospital by scooters. Higher police officials rushed to the jail to take stock of the situation.
