Manipal :Residents of Manchikere in Manipal experienced 2 second long tremors on Friday, December 19th.  This caused curiosity and panic among the locals after fissures developed on the walls of a well belonging to a local resident named Jagadish.

The Tahsildar has asked Jagadish and his neighbor Ramesh Nayak at the affected area to vacate the place at the earliest. Mr. Jagadish said that, morning when he was brushing teeth at around 7.00 a.m. there was a sound and when he checked out to see the aftereffect of the sound, he noticed cracks on the walls of the well and large chunks of stone had come off the surface on the inside of the well. Also, the surface went down and the well had no water.

Alternate arrangements will be done on a temporary basis for their stay. As the news spread, curious locals gathered at the spot in big numbers.

Senior geologist Niranjan, after scrutinizing the spot, said that he had collected the sample and a report will be sent to the government. He added that Malpe to Agumbe should be considered as sensitive area and that these were small level earthquakes.

Vittal Amin, vice president of 80-Badagubettu GP said that there are around 300 houses here, which is a government land. Recently it was said to be forest land, which made the life of the people very difficult. The GP had stopped all the felicities extended to this area, and on top of that this natural calamity is unbearable to us.
