DK DC says Rs 17 cr released to solve water crisis

Mangaluru: DK DC Dr K G Jagadeesh said the district administration has released Rs 17 crore towards permanent works to ensure better drinking water supply. The DK DC was responding to the measures mooted by District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai during the Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP) progress review meeting at Netravati Auditorium of Zilla Panchayat.

The DC said that the funds released under the dedicated task force includes Rs 9.7 crore for rural areas and Rs 7 crore for urban areas. There is no dearth of funds in this regard, Rs 40 lakh each has been sanctioned for Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks, while Rs 20 lakh has been sanctioned for other taluks in the district, he said.

The DC directed officials to supply water in tankers, utilising the available fund and also take private borewells on rent to ensure adequate supply but also told them to ensure private tanker owners do not cash in on the situation.
