Manipal: Due to water scarcity, Manipal University has taken a decision to wrap up semesters early and conduct examinations much earlier than the previous years. Twenty-two institutes, under the university will come under this scheme. More than 30,000 students, 2,500 faculties and 72,000 non-teaching staffers are studying and working at different levels. The university has also a full-fledged hospital.
Registrar Dr Narayan Sabhahit said that the semester is shortened for all other institutions, except KMC as it is under Medical Council of India and the university does not interfere in terms of the examination schedule or the duration of the semesters.
The semester exams have already started in all the institutions and they will be over by May first week. The vacation will extend till June unlike the previous years wherein the institutions started the academic year in the third week of July. This year, the semester will begin much early, he added.
