FMHMC celebrates International Yoga Day

Mangaluru: International Yoga Day was celebrated in Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital at Derlakatte on June 22.

The programme was inaugurated by Walter H D’Mello, deputy director of Public Instructions, DK Mangaluru, by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries.

Dr ESJ Prabhu Kiran, vice-principal, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. Walter D’Mello, the chief guest, in his speech explained the importance of yoga and highlighted peace and harmony aspect of yoga in daily life. "Yoga has to be practised every day. Yoga is not a talk it is a walk," he said.

Fr Vincent Saldanha, administrator, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, in his presidential address advised the students to practice yoga regularly and to spread the awareness in the society. Fifteen minutes of yoga a day, keeps the evil away. Dr Sunitha D’Souza, Department of Yoga and Naturopathy, delivered the vote of thanks.

After the formal programme, a mass yoga session was conducted to the local public and school going children. Around 100 neighbouring school children with their teachers, Anganawadi teachers and staff and students of Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College participated in the yoga session.

Fr Sylvester Lobo, assistant administrator, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, faculty members and other non-teaching staff were also present.
