FMMC organises ‘Undergraduate Surgery Quiz’

Mangaluru: The department of General Surgery, Father Muller Medical College, organized ‘Undergraduate Surgery Quiz 2018’ for MBBS students at Audio-Visual Hall of Knowledge Centre. Students from seven Medical Colleges in and around Mangalore consisting of 35 teams participated in the quiz.

The event was a half day programme and the inaugural function began with invoking the blessings of Almighty followed by lamp lighting by the dignitaries.

Dr Leo Francis Tauro, professor and head of department of General Surgery delivered the welcome address. Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean, Father Muller Medical College addressed the gathering and congratulated the participants and the faculty members of the department for taking the initiative in organizing the quiz.

Presiding over the programme, Fr Rudolph Ravi D’ Sa, administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital said, “Today quiz is emerging as an instrument of teaching and assessment of student’s performance. This is a new venture, and definitely, students need to benefit out of these programmes”.

Dr George Taliat was the Quiz Master, assisted by Dr Chirag Pereira. The quiz consisted of a preliminary selection round, MCQ written test followed by a final round of quiz with top 5 teams. The final quiz consisted of five rounds which included Condition in surgery, a surgeon knows his tools, Kaun Banega Surgeon, Surgery is an art, and rapid fire rounds.

The first prize was bagged by Manish Shetty and Vikyat Shetty, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru. The second prize was won by Shah Nawaz and Shashank Bangera, Father Muller Medical College. Suhas K S and Mali Abhishek, Yenepoya Medical College won the third prize. The best team award was bagged by ‘Trauma Troopers’, Mahima and Pooja of Srinivas Medical College, Mangaluru.

Dr Leo Francis Tauro and other senior professors in the department of General Surgery distributed the prizes to the winners of the competition.

The programme was compered by Dr Nayan Pinto, first-year postgraduate student. Dr Caren D’Souza rendered the vote of thanks.

Overall the programme was a grand success and well appreciated by the participants.
