Puttur: The Department of PG studies in Economics, St Philomena College Puttur organized ‘Farm Visit Programme’ on September 28, 2017.
Under this programme, students of the Department visited the farm land of Mr. B K Parameshwara Rao Kukkavu at Mittabagilu village of Belthangaday Taluk in Dakshina Kannada District.

While interacting with the students Mr. B K Parameshwara Rao said, ‘Paddy cultivation is conducive to ground water recharge and is the best method of water harvesting. In this era of urbanization and industrialization, interest in paddy cultivation has been declining very steeply. So, necessary measures are inevitable to preserve the existing fields and promote paddy cultivation.’

Later, the students have witnessed as many as 184 paddy variants, vegetables, flowers and fruits which are grown without the help of any chemical fertilizers.

The programme was organized by the Department to give an opportunity to the students to acquire first hand practical information about the agricultural crops. The faculty members of the Department Ms. Mahitha Kumari M, Mrs. Sandhya H and Mr. Pradeep K S coordinated the programme.
