Festival of Traditional Food at Kundapur

Kundapura, Oct 17: The traditional foods of our land are slowly disappearing in the race of modern day ready-made foods. At this juncture, Kundapur Catholic Women Association conducted traditional foods competition at the church auditorium.

 

 

Rev. Fr. Anil D’Souza presided over the programme and said “I remembered my mother when I saw these traditional foods. She was preparing these types of foods for our family. Modern mothers are giving fast food to their children. Some people have biscuits for their breakfast. Please prepare traditional foods for your children and grandchildren. By eating good food, your children can get good health and they become active and talented”. Later, he distributed prizes to the winners.

Vinaya D’Costa – the president of the association welcomed the gathering. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Prakash Paul D’Souza – the judge of the competition shared his opinion. Ronald Rodrigues, Beena Lewis were the other two judges of the competition. Shanti Carvallo won 1stprize and Irene Baretto won 2nd prize in Manni (sweet rice dish) category competition. Ivy Dsouza won 1st prize and Weeda Carvallo won 2nd prize in Jack fruit leaves food items. All competitors received the consolation prizes.

Assistant Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Jerald Sandeep D’mello, Sister Premalatha – the convener of the association, Feliciana D’Souza – the secretary of the managing committee were present. Shanti Baretto – the Deputy Secretary of the association rendered the vote of thanks. Juliet Pais compered the programme.
