Former Indian captain Azhar inaugurates MPL tourney

Mangaluru: Mangalore Premier League, organised by the Karnataka Regional Cricket Academy at the NMPT stadium at Panambur on December 17, Saturday was inaugurated by India’s former cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, at a colour ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Azhar said, "These tournaments give a wonderful opportunity to local talents to display their cricketing skills. Local talents like KL Rahul have made it to the national team. There might be many more talents who could follow his path. The state government must come forward to construct an international stadium for Mangaluru."

MLA Moidin Bava, District Congress President, Entrepreneurs BM Farooq, Iftiqar Ali, Panambur ACP Rajendra and sponsors of MPL were present.

A total of 12 teams will be part of this 35 match tournament spread over 14 days.
