Mangaluru: "Just say no to plastic bags" this was the motto as ICYM unit of St Francis Xavier Church, Bejai organised “Parisar Divas” on the occasion of environment day on Sunday 8th July 2018, in order to create awareness about the use of plastic which pollutes the environment.
After each mass on Saturday and Sunday nearly 2,500 cloth bags were bought and distributed to the faithful of Bejai parish free of cost. People were also happy to receive these bags which can be use and reuse. This unique idea of distributing cloth bags came up because previously ICYM association used to distribute saplings which was not practical since people live in flats they don’t have land to plant these saplings. But if we use clothe bags instead of plastic bags we are going to save the environment. in another way.
The “Parisar Divas” was inaugurated after the Eucharistic Celebration by the Parish Priest Rev.Fr. Wilson Vitus D’Souza, along with Asst. Parish priest Fr. Rohan Lobo, Principal of Lourdes Central School Fr. Robert D’Souza, Fr Norbert Lobo, Vice president of Parish pastoral Parishad Mr. Stany Vas, President of ICYM Mr. Lionel Pinto and Secretary Miss Jisel Dcunha.
On this occasion the Parish priest called upon the parishioners to avoid the use of plastic bags in order to save Mother Nature and start using eco- friendly bags. These bags were also distributed to nearby schools and shops. The programme became successful because of the ICYM members and the person behind this idea and its execution was Asst. Parish Priest Fr. Rohan Lobo.
These bags were sponsored by "NORTHERN SKY Properties".
