ICYM Madanthyar celebrates golden jubilee

Beltangady: Indian Catholic Youth Movement in Madanthyar celebrated its golden jubilee on Sunday, January 28.

The mega event marked with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Dr Peter Sebastian Govias, bishop of Bethia diocese. Past 50 presidents and youth served in diocese and varado were felicitated during stage programme. A cultural procession and cultural evening ‘Youth Nite 2018’ was presented by the youth in the evening.

Sacred Heart Youth movement was started under the leadership of Fr William Veigas on January 26, 1968 with the intention of guiding youth and to develop their talents.

In 1976, it was renamed as ‘Youth Service Movement’. After celebrating silver jubilee in 1993, it was clubbed with Mangalore Central ICYM Council in 1994. At present, the unit is functioning under the leadership of Mangalore Central council. This unit is a very dynamic unit in the parish, deanery and in the diocese.

Fr Basil Vas being the director, Fr Alwyn D’Souza being the assiatnt director, Tyson D’Cunha and Arvin Moras being the president and secretary respectively, the unit is functioning efficiently.
