Inter school cultural fest for special children ‘Chiguru’ held at SAC

Mangaluru: Manasa rehabilitation and training center pamboor emerged as overall winners of Chiguru 2017, a state level inter school cultural fest for special children on Sunday.

Sahodaya, an outreach programme of St Aloysius College organized the event at the Mother Teresa Peace Park from 9am to 5pm.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr Fr Dionysius Vaz, rector of St Aloysius Institutions. He said that special children are the source of inspiration and they are open minded human people who smile and make all happy.

Fr Praveen Martis, principal of St Aloysius College presided over the function. Eight schools of special chidren from all over Karnataka participated in the event. The valedictory function and prize distribution ceremony was held at Mother Teresa Peace Park at 4 pm, along with cultural events. The winners are awarded cash prizes and trophies. St Agnes Special School Mangaluru bagged the runners up trophy. There were eight events namely group singing, folk dance, pot painting, sketching, embroidery, lemon race, brass band and collage.

The event was held to bring together talented special children from the entire state and provide them a forum to display their proficiency in various performing arts.

Sahodaya, an outreach programme for the empowerment of the especially abled was started in 2000 to sensitize the staff and the students towards the needs and aspirations of the specially abled. This outreach programme has been constantly working with groups and institutions catering to their needs. Sahodayans have imbibed the spirit of growing together and lending their might towards empowering people with disabilities even after completion of their studies.
