Mangaluru: A meeting of police and corporation officials was held to address traffic issues. MLC Ivan D’Souza asked the Mangaluru City Corporation to make it mandatory for builders of multi-storey commercial complexes to provide parking in each floor in their future projects.

MLC D’Souza said the corporation should issue future building licences by adding this particular clause. He said the city required separate parking facilities for goods vehicles and private buses plying to outstation destinations.

Mayor Kavita Sanil asked revenue officials of the corporation to impose heavy fine on commercial shops that reserved parking in front of their establishments. Many had erected chain barricades reserving parking. The corporation officials had removed 12 such chain barricades recently. But, they were back once the officials left the spot.

A participant questioned the corporation allowing parking outside a jewellery outlet on K.S. Rao Road when there was enough parking space available in the basement of the same building. Roopa D. Bangera, councillor, said some city buses were plying on the sub-roads deviating from M.G. Road adding to the traffic jam. They were particularly plying on Bejai Road.
