Udupi: The Udupi Zilla Billava Yuva Vedike organised a one-day conference of ‘chiefs of ‘garodis’ (places of worship) in Udupi district at the Town Hall. There were 163 garodis in Udupi district and about 1,500 gurikaras. Of these, only 70 garodis were in good condition. The rest were in need of repairs or facilities. Some garodis did not even have a proper approach road.

Commenting on this, Kagodu Thimmappa, Revenue Minister of Karnataka state said," In modern age era, the changes are necessary along with the change of society as well. There should be unity in the society for the development of individuals and society at large. There are proposals to utilize benefits to Garodis, especially in undivided DK district, said. Low caste people were not allowed to enter the temples and that time there was lot of atrocities and discrimination to lower caste by people by upper caste people. So under the leadership of Koti Chennaya in the district started to build Garodis to meet their Gods."

Pramod Madhwaraj said that there should be equality system in Garodis. There should be system that all caste and communities should utilize the services in the Garodis. There should not be partiality among different castes like Billavas, Bunts and other. It would be possible to get all benefit from the government.
