Krishna idol to be installed in Edison

Udupi: The idol of Lord Sri Krishna sculpted out of saligrama shile, will be installed at Sri Krishna Vrindavana at the branch mutt of Puttige Mutt at Edison in New Jersey, U.S.. The idol was given a rousing welcome on Wednesday. The idol of Lord Krishna holding a churning rod would be installed at the branch mutt at Edison by Sugunendra Tirtha Swami of Puttige Mutt next month. The idol was brought in a procession from Gita Mandira to Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple here.

The idol was dipped in the Madhwa Sarovara pond and then taken to the mukha mantapa of Sri Krishna Mutt. Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt and Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, junior seer, performed mangalarti to the idol.

The idol was taken in a procession around the Car Street here in the Navaratna Ratha and then kept at the Puttige Mutt. The idol would be taken to New Jersey on Thursday and it would be installed in Edison on June 8.

The saligrama shile is found in the Gandaki river in Nepal. The idol of Lord Krishna sculpted out of saligrama shile is 19 inches high. It was sculpted by Harish Acharya of Sirsi, Uttara Kannada. He stayed in Nepal for six months to sculpt the idol so that its sculpting and carving were neatly done.
