Mangaluru: "The scarcity of doctors at the community health centres was 48 per cent. While the demand was for around two lakh gynaecologists, there were just 30,000. The Centre and State Government need to increase the number of postgraduate and undergraduate medical seats at the earliest as there is death of doctors at the community health centres," said Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairman of Narayana Health.

Dr Shetty was talking at the two-day national conference on ‘Safe and Sustainable Hospitals’ on Saturday December 5. He also stressed on making better use of nurses by training them in intensive care and other health care aspects.

The conference was jointly organised by the Academy of Hospital Administration, the Manipal Chapter, the Yenepoya University, the A J Hospital and Manipal University.
