Udupi: MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary said that his party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other historians are strongly opposing the celebration of Tipu Jayanti.
“As a MLC for the twin districts, I have written letters to the deputy commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district requesting not to include my name in the invite for Tipu Jayanti. After studying Tipu’s background, BJP decided to oppose and protest and demand the state government not to observe Tipu Jayanti. The government has issued prohibitory orders. This is not right in a democratic country like India."
I will not participate in any event related to Tipu Jayanthi, as he was anti-Hindu and anti-Kannada.
