Man sentenced for possessing illegally manufactured pistol

Mangaluru: The principal district and session court sentenced a person to five years rigorous imprisonment finding him guilty of possessing an illegally manufactured pistol of prohibited bore. The judge K S Bilagi also directed the accused Babu, 33, resident of Sasihithlu in Haleyangadi village of Mangaluru taluk to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 and undergo an additional 30 days imprisonment in case of default, public prosecutor K P Adyanthaya said.

Ramesh Hanapura, then PSI of Surathkal police station and his staff on a tip off had nabbed the accused near HMC weigh bridge near Surathkal with a pistol tucked in the waist of his pant. The pistol with a serial number 77770 with words only for army supply was embossed on it.

A case under Arms Act was registered against the accused.
