Mangalore University holds annual NSS camp at Loretto Aided Higher Primary School

Bantwal: The Mangalore University annual special NSS camp 2018-19 was held at Loretto Aided Higher Primary School, Lady of Loretto church.

It was inaugurated by Fr Elias D’souza, parish priest Lady of Loretto church. In his addressal to the NSS volunteers he encouraged them to work sincerely and to take up the responsibility of developing the society. Fr Francis Assisi Almeida, advocate Bishops House Mangaluru said, "Being an NSS volunteer you should develop yourselves by giving service to society and also to be a good citizen by imbibing good values and set an example to the rest.

Principal Fr Micheal L Santhumayor, presided over the function and delivered his presidential remarks. Prof Lourdusamy, academic advisor Milagres College, Mangaluru, Sr Edoline Rodrigues, headmistresses Loretto Aided Higher Primary school, Richard Menezes, vice president of Lady of Loretto Church, Irine D’Souza, Amtady gram panchyat member Bantwal, Nikhil Martis, NSS programme officer were present on the dais.

The routine of NSS camp began with flag hoisting by well known people associated with the camp locality followed by breakfast. All the groups then dispersed to the spot allotted to them for the clearing ceremony, maintaining the church and school surroundings and plantation work of the camp spot by assisting the workers. On November 25 an educational survey which involve calculation of surrounding houses was done by the NSS volunteers. On November 26, the volunteers removed plastic and created awareness on cleanliness and hygiene. A guest lecture was arranged on personality development, legal awareness, importance of first aid and organ donation. A practical session on fire and safety measures was conducted.

The volunteers in the evening planned the cultural activities and spent their leisure in sports activities. Later, the groups presented a short cultural programme followed by a day long evaluation task followed by dinner.

The valedictory function was held on November 28. Fr Jhonson Sequeira, headmaster Loretto English Medium High School, Fr Valerian D’Souza correspondent, Milagres Educational Institutions, Ronald D’Souza, former president APMC Bantwal, Harish Shetty Padu, president Amtady gram panchayat Bantwal, Mohammad B, PDO Amtady gram panchayat Bantwal, Cicilia Pereira, vice president Milagres parish, Ivan Fernandes, secretary Milagres parish, Laveena Lobo, PTA president Milagres College Mangaluru, were the other dignitaries of the day.
