Mangaluru: Mangaluru Mayor Kavitha Sanil said that Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has received several complaints from those cheated by the builders.

"It is mandatory that all the builders to need to apply for completion certificate within a month after the construction work is over. Most of the builders, especially developers of high rise apartments, let buyers to occupy their flats even before obtaining completion certificates. As a result, the occupants are made to suffer without door numbers, water supply, electricity connection, underground drainage, sewage treatment plant and other facilities," Kavitha said.

She suggested that all the buyers should compulsorily check whether the flats they buy have obtained a completion certificate from the city corporation or not. Meanwhile, the builders and developers should allow buyers to occupy the premises only after obtaining completion certificate, she added.

She said the implementation of Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) will set right all such anomalies in future.
