Monthi Feast – A Family fest of harvest and health

We celebrated the nativity of Virgin Mary on Sep 8th every year. In India it rains for three months and the whole earth shines with greenery. Mother earth makes all preparation to celebrate the feast of Mother Mary.

 

 

 

 

This feast was first celebrated in A.D. 55. In Rome the people started celebrating this feast during A.D. 675-700. In Spain this feast was first celebrated in 7th century. After that many countries started celebrating this feast.

In India this feast came into exist by the Portuguese. In coastal Karnataka this feast is celebrated as a family celebration. Christians praise the Lord Almighty for the harvest they get from their fields. They prepare various types of vegetable dishes and serve food in banana leaves. The new rice is mixed with sweet dishes and eaten sitting with the family members. Children offer flowers to the Mother Mary statue during the mass. Novena prayers are offered before the feast. All the family members residing at different regions of the world visit their native family and worship Mother Mary. Mother Mary always blesses her children.
