Mangaluru: State Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated National Fish Farmers’ Day at a function held at Fisheries College Ekkur. The function was jointly organised by the Agricultural Science Centre of Fisheries College and Department of Fisheries. Minister stressed the need for a clear-cut policy on sea fishing. It is regrettable that inland fishing has not received enough encouragement in the state despite significant strides in this regard by states like Andhra Pradesh.

" Officials have been instructed to encourage farmers to take up fishing and also to organise an Andhra Pradesh tour for farmers to know about the success of inland fishing there," he added.

Dr M N Venugopal, Dean of Fisheries College, V K Shetty, Managing Director of KFDC, Dr Shivakumar, Chief of Agricultural Science Centre and others were present.
