Prakash P. Mallya honored with K. K. Pai National Award at Manipal

Manipal: Prakash P. Mallya honored with K. K. Pai National Award for Excellence in Banking presented by K. K. Pai Trust Manipal here on Sunday, 09th October, 2016 at K.K. Pai Memorial Hall,TAPMI, Manipal.

Prakash P. Mallya was honoured with K.K. Pai National Award by Dr. H. S. Ballal Pro – Chancelor of Manipal University. T. Ashok Pai, Sathish Kamath, T. Sathish U. Pai, K. M. Udupa and Dr. K. K. Ammannaya were present on the dais.

In his address Dr. H. S. Ballal appreciated the various achievements in the banking sector in India. He served in Vijaya Bank with the greatest achievements for the growth of the Bank. Sri Prakash P Mallya recipient of K K Pai National Banking Award for 2016/17 is an eminent banker of all India stature which he enjoyed a very long banking career of nearly four decades. He had the rare opportunity of working with three premier banking institutions, namely Vijaya Bank as its Chairman and Managing Director, Syndicate Bank as its Executive Director and Canara Bank as its General Manager and in other capacities. The most striking achievement of Mallya was the magnificent turnaround of Vijaya Bank after he took over as Chairman and Managing Director. Another significant achievement was the high visibility of the bank that he achieved and brand image he created for the bank, he said.

In reply to the presentation of K K Pai National Award, Mr. Prakash P. Mallya said that it will be a great privilege to visit Manipal which he used to visit during his service in Syndicate Bank. K. K. Pai was the longest CMD in the banking sector, almost four decades. He redefined the role of the banking industry. He pointed out several measures, asset quality of the bank, the objectives of the Banking industry human resources management and bank consolidation. He was thankful for the K K Pai Trust, Manipal as he was chosen the 10th recipient of K K Pai National award.

Earlier, K. M. Udupa welcomed the gathering. Dr. K. K. Ammannaya reads out the lifelong various achievements in the field of banking sector on recipient Prakash P Mallya. Mr Kamath proposed vote of thanks.

Sri Prakash Mallya was the recipient of many prestigious awards. The awards won by him include an Aryabhata award for excellence in Banking, 2006, M Visweswarya Award, an innovative leadership award in 2007, T A Pai Award for excellence in Banking in 2007 from Delhi Kannadiga, New Delhi and now K K Pai National Banking Award.

Prakash Mallya is currently holding positions as Director of Lakshmi Vilas Bank since September 2014, Director on the Board of Stock Holding Corporation of India since September 2008, President of Canara Bank Relief and Welfare Society since December 2008.

Mallya was Chairman of IFCI for two years till 2012. He was also a Director in Bank of India. He was a Director in Falcon Tyres Ltd and Lanco Solar Energy Pvt. Ltd and Lanco Infratech Pvt Ltd.
