Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated two day 'Brahat Krishi Mela' at Brahamvar

Udupi: Two days Brahat Krishi Mela inaugurated at Brahmavar Krishi Kendra near here on Saturday, 15th October, 2016 by Pramod Madhwaraj District – in – Minister and Minister of Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment in collaboration with the Agricultural Diploma College Brahmavar, Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Mangaluru, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Brahmavar and Mangaluru, NABARD, Department of Agriculture, Department of Watershed, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture Fisheries and Forestry Udupi, SKDRDP, Udupi, District Krishik Samaj, Udupi and Mangaluru under the sponsorship of Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development, Cochin.

In his address after inaugurating the Krishi Mela that Agriculture is an ancient profession of the people for food and economic dependence. The whole world has been dependent on food. The food habit has been changed even though world population increases. For earlier years, farmers never gave up farming land, but things are changing now. People are not going to agriculture because of several reasons.

We in twin districts have very good fertile land which would be suitable for agriculture. But now we would not get a price which farmers deserve to due to the high rise of the cost of labor and other things. The government is trying to develop the fertile land for the farmers. It will be the responsibility of the government to solve the problems of farmers to get a fair reasonable price for their products. Government releases several crores of funds for the development of agriculture. Whatever advanced technology should make use of the farmers to yield the farming products.

The formal programme of the Krishi Mela began with the state anthem led by Ganesh Gangolli and team. Dr. C. Vasudevappa Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Agriculture and Horticulture (UAHS), Shivmogga presided over the formal programme.

Dr. Hanumantappa Associate Director of Research ZAHRS, Brahmavar welcomed the gathering. Dr. M. K. Naik Research Director, Agriculture and Horticulture, University Shivmogga gave the keynote address.

K. M. Udupa Managing Trustee of Bharathiya Vikas Kendra in his address said that the government should provide a good retention price for agriculture. Agriculture has been good profession if earns good. The government should stand by farmers’ interest and build the confidence of the people even though certain difficulties faced by the farmers. Horticulture farming is a very profitable one. The Government would provide various benefits to the Horticulture farmers.

During the occasion Kuchalayya retired Associate Horticulture director was felicitated. Many students of various colleges actively attended during the programme. Sheela Shetty Vice President of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Udupi, Dr. Dhananjaya B, Programme Convener of Agriculture Centre Brahmavar, Dr. Chandrashekar Naik, Purushsottam P.K., Dr. T H Gowda and other Agricultural officials and other elected representatives were present on the dais.

Vaikunta Herle progressive farmer of Sasthan, Sanjeev Kyathappavar Training Assistant, Krishi Kendra Brahmavar were compered the programme.

As many as 100 stalls were installed during the Mela. Various districts farmers as well as large number of public were taken advantage from the stakeholders and stall keepers.
