Pramod Madhwaraj speaks about sand policy

Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj, District in-Charge Minister of Udupi district said traditional sand extraction will begin in sand deposits located in coastal regulatory Zones (CRZ) by the end of this month.

Speaking to media persons at DC office in Manipal, he said, "The shortage of sand will be a matter of past when once sand extraction starts and meantime the district administration has decided to give the responsibility of ensuring that sand is not illegally transported to other districts.

"In CRZ area, 28 sand deposits have been hindering movement of fisheries boats, We have identified them. The Coastal Management Authority has permitted to remove sand from these deposits by employing the labour. Meanwhile, those who engaged in traditional sand extraction can apply for the same."
