Rain lashes Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada gets 108mm

Mangaluru (TOI) : The district received an average rainfall of 108mm as downpour continued for 24-long hours and stopped at 8am on Wednesday.

The average is 101mm more than what the district had received last year.

The cumulative rainfall till June 29 was 877mm, which is 125mm more than what the district received during the same period last year.

While Belthangady taluk received highest amount of rainfall at 125mm, it was closely followed by Sullia at 122mm. Mangaluru taluk received 72mm of rain and Puttur received good rainfall at 117 mm. Bantwal taluk received 103mm of rainfall.

Only Mangaluru, Bantwal and Sullia taluks have surpassed the cumulative rainfall of June for last year. While Mangaluru taluk received almost double rainfall at 1058 mm (last year 589 mm), Bantwal received 875 mm (last year 704mm) and Sullia has received 774 mm, 36mm more rainfall than last year. Rest of the taluks have received less rainfall this year compared to previous year.

The water level at Nethravathi River in Bantwal, Uppinangady and Kumaradhara River at Uppinangady are flowing below the danger level. But water level in Nethravathi River in Bantwal is at 6.2 mts, just two mts shy from the danger level of 8.5 mts.
