Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai, said that Baggundi lake near Panambur would be developed by making use of local area development funds contributed by local industries including Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd.

"At Bengaluru, Infosys Ltd has adopted seven lakes and developed them. Another lake at Mysuru too is being developed. We plan to rejuvenate and give face-lift to a couple of lakes in the city out of corporate social responsibility funds of industries. For this purpose, nodal systems have been put in place through agencies," he explained.

Rai stated that the lakes have been classified into different categories for drafting suitable schemes for their revival. The government is committed to protection of lakes and ponds, he clarified.
