Mangaluru: Rotaract Club NITK Chapter (under Rotary dist: 3181) is a socio-cultural club affiliated with the Surathkal division of Rotary International. The student members, organize several events that not only raise awareness about specific causes but also proactively help redress problems in the local society through initiatives such as orphanage trips, marathons and beach cleanup drives.

Their biggest production every year is the annual charity play, all proceeds which go toward supporting a charitable cause. The play, presently in its seventh year, has grown to become the flagship event of the collegiate club with over 1000 attendees including Mangaluru audience, NITK alumni, faculty, students from NITK and neighbouring colleges.

This year, the production is based on the play 'Class of 84' by Rahul Da Cunha, which is centered around the reunion of a well knit group of college friends who get together after years to attend their classmate's funeral. It will be held on March 31 at Silver Jubilee Auditorium, NITK.

Some of the organizations worked with in the past and the donations that were able to be procured for them are:

2011 - CRY (WHO) - Rs 31,000 donated.
2012 - Make A Difference (MAD) - Rs 38,000 donated.

2015 - NITK Kannada Medium School - Rs 81,000 donated.

Last year, the play was well received. There was a collection of Rs 2,20,000 through ticket sales and donations which was the highest recorded collection since the play's conception, all of which was given to the Roman and Catherine Lobo School for the Blind. This year, through cooperation and support, more funds are hoped to be raised, all of which will be donated to charitable institutions:

• Samvedana, a care home which caters to 60 HIV+ children (24 girls and 36 boys).

• I-Care, an NITK student-led initiative by team Incident to provide education to unprivileged children.

Since the organization believes in giving back to society, they request help in their charitable endeavor and contributions toward this noble cause.
