Mangaluru,: According to a new proposal by Airport Authority of India (AAI), Mangaluru international airport requires a grant of Rs 4,000 crore to expand its existing runway.

In a meeting presided by Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, at the airport, AAI officials stated that a grant of Rs 4, 000 crore is essential to finish the runway extension and pending works in the airport.

The airport officials stated that Rs 4, 000 crore fund was required only for land acquisition to expand the runway further. Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the state government should identify the land to acquire the same and AAI should start expansion work, once the land is handed over to them by the state government.
