School of Communication organise Health Colloquium

Manipal: School of Communication, Manipal organised a two day Health Colloquium on March 24 and 25 in association with Manipal Hospitals and Rotary Club Udupi. The Colloquium highlights the theme of Health communication bridging gaps and raising awareness. The event was formally inaugurated with the dignitaries lighting the lamp.

The chief guest for the event was Dr. Ajay Bakshi who is the Managing Director & CEO of Manipal Health Enterprises (Manipal Hospitals) since July 2014. In his key note talk titled Hospital Communication: Traits and Responsibilities of Hospital Administration, he stressed on clarity, transparency, empathy and compassion, and overcoming patience as the points a health administrator must keep in mind while communicating to their patients.

Dr. Nandini Lakshmikantha, Director of School of Communication, spoke of the opportunities that the students of communication had in the health sector and how crucial it was for health professionals and communication professionals to work together to bridge the gap in health awareness.

And with that the Health Colloquium 2017 opened its floors to panel discussions and paper presentations by health professionals from the country discussing topics like, ethical communication in clinics, complexities of public health intervention and the promotion of health awareness through media.
