Bantwal: It looks like communal violence is back in Dakshin Kannada district. The police have imposed Section 144 from May 27 till June 2 in Bantwal taluk. A group of youths, in protest against the stabbing incident, forcibly closed down shops that had opened in Kallada on Saturday morning and the town went bandh.

Mohammed Hashir was allegedly stabbed by a group of three when he and two others were returning home from the mosque after Friday prayers. The accused have been identified as Mithun, Amit and Yathin.

Demanding immediate arrest of the accused, a group of youth forcibly downed the shutters of shops and business establishments. Two youths from two different communities also had a fight, resulting in stone-pelting. The police intervened and brought the situation under control.

Senior police officials are stationed in Bantwal, so as to prevent any untoward situation.
